On the 8th of November 1970 a friend and I joined dozens of first-snow-of-the-season skiers who rode in the backs of 4-wheel-drive pickups and other all-terrain vehicles up Aspen Ajax Mountain in post-storm brilliant sunshine, to ski from the top. As I buckled up, Polly stripped. Taking her lead, I too shucked my clothes and, following Polly's lead, tied my clothes around my waist, put my boots on, stepped into the bindings, and off we skied--naked, side-by-side, in fifteen inches of light powder, from the top of Aspen Ajax to town. Shy, I then donned pants and shirt, shouldered my skis, and accompanied Polly, still buff and glistening in the sun, wearing only her boots, while using her ski clothes as a cushion for her skis on her shoulder. On the walk down Mill Street, past the Hotel Jerome, and across the river to my waterwheel-on-the-porch home. On the way, we were greeted by friends and tourists alike, exactly as they had always greeted us, casually and warmly . . . (No one in Aspen in those days would have been caught dead acknowledging anything unusual in Polly's nudity on such a glorious day.) BTW, Only4fun, the Spanish word tabla translates board in English: so . . . surfing naked on her board.
