I believe the possibility of each lodge having it own personality could be as varied as there are people. I understand what you speak of. I joined because of family history but really joined because of attraction to learn the historical involvement of Free Masonry in America and specifically Texas. Regretfully many lodges are doing the minimum monetarily to keep their doors open plus comply with the Grand Lodges Charter requirements. Could this be because of dwindling memberships? Our lodge does scholarship fundraisers and beyond this, I am not privy to. Business as usual. I believe, as you feel, this is lacking and perhaps the curiosity of thE members is provided by the effort to climb though the Scottish or York Rites but not on the local Blue Lodge level. I believe keeping a curious mind engaged is vital to the attraction, growth and health of the whole. There are stated meetings which are published dates, monthly, where the business operations of the lodge is done and there are called meetings where special awards, instructional or whatever the leadership decides. During these meetings special programs could be offered but it takes effort and involvement. The effects of such is hard to quantify and perhaps hard then to defend its overall worth in time and effort. The Why-did-you-join seeds needs fertilization and watering in order to see growth. This is logical and worth pursuing.
