This was really well done. Making a film is hard. Making a good one is a real challenge. Doing it for no money makes it a feat—something rare. Someone (Jake?) is not just merely falling back on their rare gift. They’re really working their ass off to make the most of it. The story treads on familiar ground in a most refreshing way. The relationship between the two boys, though central to the storyline, is perhaps the least important one portrayed in this film. It’s what the rest of the cast represents — the world more accepting of what is out of any gay person’s control — that makes this a very hopeful film. True, it’s not where we are today, and there are plenty of people like Connor’s Dad who won’t make getting to that ideal destination easy. A dragon fly only gets, at most, two months on this earth to land there. But, gay society is making progress toward a more accepting world, and like the film makers, making the most of the opportunity.
