As someone who went through intensive treatment at a hospital and at a specialized center for eating disorders. I can confirm (on a personal level) that the force feeding method I endured at the hospital was the most detrimental attribute to my mental recovery and the center I went to two years later after “completing” two years of intensive traumatic outpatient through the hospital, was what saved my life. The health care system needs to reevaluate how they approach eating disorders before they destroy more young lives. Use empathy and critical thinking and maybe help the patient into a journey of WANTING to recover instead of force feeding them.
